The Institute of Basic Science (IBS) is a government-funded research institute established in November 2011 with the aim of fostering the development of basic science in South Korea through large-scale, long-term and group-based research. IBS currently operates research centers in mathematics, physics, chemistry, life sciences, earth sciences and interdisciplinary sciences.

IBS invites candidates for the position of Associate Directors who are senior level researchers with high research potential and the ability to lead their own research group in collaboration with the directors within the research centers.

The IBS Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies (CENS) (https://ibs.re.kr/cens/) is one of the research centers established by the Institute for Basic Science (IBS). CENS is led by HAHN Kevin Insik and is located at the main IBS campus in Daejeon, South Korea. Research at CENS is focused on conducting new and innovative experiments with beams of radioactive isotopes, developing state-of-the-art detector and target systems, and developing robust theories, all of which deal with the most critical questions in the structure and reactions of nuclei, the cosmic origin of chemical elements, and the evolution and explosion of stars . Founded three years ago, the vision of CENS is to become an internationally renowned research group in rare isotope physics. Detector development and theoretical work are carried out at the IBS campus in Daejeon, while experimental work is carried out at the nearby IBS Heavy Ion Accelerator Research Institute and at international nuclear physics accelerators.

The IBS Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Nuclear Physicists with an exceptional research record and leadership in the field of unstable nuclei. The Deputy Director will assist the Founding Director in achieving the goals of CENS and directing his own research activities within the Center. The Deputy Director must be able to represent the Center on scientific and political issues to an audience ranging from the general public to researchers and policy makers at the highest levels.

- The IBS Center for Multidimensional Carbon Materials (CMCM) supports a talented international team of highly collaborative researchers who design, synthesize and study new forms of carbon and related materials, many of which will have exceptional physical and electronic properties. The center is located at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), located in a beautiful setting near the port cities of Ulsan and Busan with the famous Haeundae Beach. Ulsan is known for its shipbuilding (Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI)), automobile manufacturing (Hyundai Motor Company), and petrochemical and chemical industries (SK Energy, S-Oil, etc.), so it is an ideal place to explore connecting science with industry. - The Associate Director performs several key roles in assisting the Founding Director in achieving the goals of IBS-CMCM and in leading his or her research group within the center. The specific area of ​​research sought for our new Assistant Director IBS CMCM is basic surface science via nano spectroscopy, including TERS, SERS, nano-IR, SHG and others; and optical characterization of materials in general, including particles (nano, micro), thin films and others.

- The applicant must have a strong record of scientific achievements at the international level, a significant record in securing external funding for interdisciplinary research and evidence of leadership in their own research area.

- The candidate must have experience in managing a large research program and staff within an academic institution (or equivalent agency (national laboratory, institutes, etc.) responsible for research) and be able to formulate a strong vision to support the research and information programs in the IBS CMCM at UNIST - in.

- Successful candidates must be able to "get a job" for the position of permanent professor at UNIST.

The position requires vision, breadth and common sense; proven abilities of intellectual leadership; a keen sense of public policy, as well as proven experience in managing financial and human resources.
